Pocket projectors for Christmas
Why go to the cinema when you can carry one around in your
pocket? Pocket projectors were all the rage at this week's IFA 2005 consumer
electronics show in Berlin with Toshiba and Epson previewing some very small
projectors indeed. Both the Toshiba and Epson (pictured) models use low-voltage LED
technology which means there is no need for bulky fans to cool them down and
they can even run on batteries.
The downside it that the picture size is
limited to between 3ft-6ft and brightness is low. While Epson has no immediate
plans, Toshiba’s little devil will be out in time for the silly season.
Measuring 13.6 x 4 x 10cm, this palm-sized device will run for 2 hours from a
clip-on lithium-ion battery. It will also take USB memory sticks letting you show presentations, photos or even DivX movies without needing a laptop of DVD player. Expect to pay around £700 for this mini marvel. Samsung are also getting a tiny projector ready for launch. Check out the launch of the world’s
first tiny projector, the Mitsubishi PocketProjector, here.
