Sony resurrects the Walkman
Sony is determined to fight against global domination by iPods by bringing back the iconic Walkman brand, although this time disguised as very sleek digital audio players. Forget that there is a 6GB (NW-A1000) and 20Gb (NW-A3000) version for the moment and take a look at that screen. That’s right, there isn’t one – at least not one you will notice. Instead, you have state-of-the-art OLED display which blends seamlessly into the smooth front of the player.

The players boast new software with some nice features, namely the ability to search for tracks in any number of ways, ranging from genre and artist to album, song and release date. If that doesn’t work they will remember three-years worth of playback history. Due in November, there are no UK prices yet but based on US conversions the 20Gb unit will come in at around £170-180. The launch comes just as Apple shrank the iPod mini and renamed it nano.
