Samsung launches LED LCD TV

Samsung has unveiled a new 40in LCD TV sporting LED backlight technology which can double the screen life of your TV.

The LED technology, which already scooped a prestigious award from the European Image and Sound Association (EISA), resultsSamsung_led_lcd_tv_1 in richer colour reproduction thanks a colour range that is 46 per cent broader than existing models. Samsung says the use of LEDs can double your TV’s screen life compared to the use of existing CCFL panels. And for those concerned with the environment, you’ll be glad to know that the LEDs are a lot greener since they do not use Mercury.

The LE40M91 TV is a 100Hz set, which should result in much more image clarity and less image blurring or ‘ghosting’ when watching fast-motion video, like sports. The TV itself has a high-def resolution of 1366x768, a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and two HDMI inputs. No price or availability yet.

Hi everyone. The picture clarity shown on this model looks simply AMAZING! Is there a specific date on when it's going to launch? Also, when it does hit the shelves, will it initially be out in European markets only or worldwide? Are there any preliminary prices that are floating around? Any info for comparitive purposes to see how it stacks up against other current models or new models preparing to come out? How obsolete will it be once the next wave of LCD's appear? How does this particular model stack up to some of the newest plasma models that are currently on the market or set to launch soon? Here is something of a guide (http://www.dealsdepot.com.au/a62/Finding-the-LCD-TV-That's-Right-For-You/article_info.html) that helps break down the basics of LCD vs. plasma -- does anyone have something similar to this but with more specific details about this Samsung model? Also, is 40in the largest make planned for production? There is a Samsung model coming out soon that is 70in, which is almost twice its size. I am very interested in purchasing this particular television, or one that's nearly identical in terms of cost and performance. Sorry for all the questions, but this is going to be a big (and expensive) purchase, so I want to make sure I have all the information available before deciding to spend my money. Thanks in advance for any help

Cool post, but to be honest, I'm still fairly uncertain as to which is better between an LCD TV and a Plasma screen. I've been thinking of getting a Tv and eventually a new home theatre system, but before I shell out over $1,000 for a nice TV, I want to make sure I have all the information that's out there. Can anyone tell me which one looks poised to become the superior product? Which one is shaping up to have more available accessories and compatibility with other products? Which one damages more easily and which one looks as if it will become obsolte the fastest? These are just a few of the questions I'd like to clear up before making my purchase. I tried talking to a salesman at the store I went to, but I got the feeling he was just trying to sell me on the most expensive model, not necessarily the best one. So I went online and did a little digging around to see if I could find any good comparative guides. I was hoping maybe someone else had any guides or articles that might help give me a better understanding of the differences between LCD and Plasma, and which what to expect with each format. Thanks in advance to anyone who does have a any links to similar pages and shares them. Great post too by the way. Your blog is always a great read. Keep up the good work!

I was under the impression that the average life of LCD was already approx 60,000 hours or 6.84 years of use. As most people don't have the TV on for 24 hours a day, the normal TV user should have a TV with a life expectancy of approx 10 years. I don't know about you, after Ive had a TV for 10 years I would like something new anyway.
