Sky+ Boxes Break 2 Million Barrier
The announcement is also significant in showing that a growing number of
UK TV viewers want more control over what they watch, when they watch it and
how they record it using hard disk drive (HDD) recorders.
With 2 million boxes out there, Sky estimates that it means 5 million
viewers are now able to pause and rewind live TV, record two programmes at once
and set the box to record every episode of their favourite shows. Jeremy
Darroch, Sky's Chief Financial Officer, said:
"Passing the milestone of 2 million Sky+ boxes keeps us on track to
break through our target of 25% penetration well ahead of schedule (2010).”
New research from Sky also
highlighted what TV Sky+ users are recording with
all their new-fangled functionality. Drama is the most popular genre recorded
(39.3%) followed by documentaries (14.9%), entertainment (13.0%) and movies
(9.5%).
Across all channels, time-shifting accounts for an average of 12.2% of
total viewing through Sky+ boxes. You can expect this to rise as more and more
homes chuck out their videos and opt for some form of HDD recorder.

Yes it is very good that Sky plus has reached 2 million, but how many do NOT work like mine and the many that got in touch with Watchdog on BBC

Warranties are for 12 month on any equipment unless it says differently. If your Sky+ has problems that it has had from the start email in and someone will respond and sort it out for you.

I have had a Sky+ box for some years now and never had to have a replacement, it does play up at times due to static, but removing the power plug for 5-10 minutes cures the problem. Switching the box to stand by when its not in use helps a lot,you dont have to have it switch on to record your programs.

Like so many others,I have been with Sky since day one. They charged me £65 for a replacment Sky+ Box and do not have the confidence that it will work for more than 90 days.So much for looking after the customer!!

Have had 3 different boxes over the past 4 years, the latest one has lasted the longest! Still glitches, especially with UK Gold. Don't like the idea that us 'Early Birds' were overcharged so that new customers pay almost nothing! Do us 'original' customers count for nothing in the Sky Camp. An HD box
for a nominal amount would be in way of a THANKYOU for
contributing so much to SKY's profit1

You think Sky+ boxes have problems? Try the new top up tv box. Pay for it up front, pay a monthly subscription for channels you cant yet view, and be stuck with a box that constantly freezes, and records programmes when it feels like it.
Not happy? Spend 20 minutes or so in a queue on their tech line, just to be told a patch will be downloaded at some point, and everything will be hunky dory then!
